2019/04/08

There are so many things to consider when you’re decorating your apartment. It’s more than deciding on your color scheme and shopping for matching furniture. You need to take into account the look and feel of your apartment, and the whole process can get arduous and complicated.

We want to make sure your home is designed the best way it should be, and so we’ve created a guide to help you.

Before anything else, you need to decide on your design style. This is the part where you get to decide how you want your apartment to show your personality, and even explore your personal style. There are many ways you can go about it, modern, minimalist, mid-century modern, traditional, and so on.

If you’re not sure which style you want to do, you can look at interior design photos and saving the designs you like. You start to get a sense of what kind of decoration you want the more you do this.

Living Room

This is usually the first room that greets your guests, so you want to take great care in designing this room. Arranging your furniture is an important thing to do because it’s more than pushing a sofa against a wall, complementing it with more chairs, and calling it a day.

You want to think about choosing a focal point, it can be a decorative wall, an eye-catching wall filled with art or photos, a potted plant, a cool light fixture, or anything else you think that’d show off your personality. In terms of lighting, there are three main types of lighting: ambient, task, and accent.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient light refers to a soft glow around the room that doesn’t cause a harsh glare. The goal of ambient lighting is to make a room’s lighting as natural as possible. It’s meant to give you enough light to get from one point or another, but it’s not ideal lighting when you’re working.

Task Lighting

This light is smaller and more concentrated, it’s ideal to use when you’re working because helps stimulate your brain. This kind of lighting is meant to help you see better when you’re reading, cooking, writing, or any other action that needs a person’s concentration. Task light will be more effective when it’s concentrated, and not when the whole room isn’t bathed with glaring light.

Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is concentrated lighting with the intention of drawing focus to a focal point. This type of lighting is a way to add style and drama to your home. It helps turn focus towards pieces you want to display and away from dull areas. You can use accent lighting to highlight your artwork, bookcase displays, collections, and so on.

Another important tip is to make sure you know the measurements of the room you’re working on. When you know the measurements of the room, you have a better idea on what kind of furniture to buy to maximize the space you have without compromising design.

Bedroom

The bedroom is your sanctuary, it’s your private place where you destress and relax. You want this space to give you as much comfort as possible. A tip to ensure your bedroom’s comfort is to keep the layout simple and making sure you have storage space to prevent your stuff from being cluttered around the place. To maximize your space, you can consider using modular furniture. For example, you can buy a bed that has drawers underneath and you can use this for your other storage needs.

You can also increase your bedroom’s comfort by adding more throw pillows or a rug to keep your feet warm when you walk around the room. You can also add more life to your room by choosing accents that add color to the room. You can use blankets, artworks, unique lamps, and so on.

Bathroom

An important room that gets overlooked is the bathroom. The bathroom is another place you have where you’re at your most vulnerable. This is also usually the first room you head to after a good night’s sleep. You want to make this room clean and energizing for you as you prepare for the day to come.

One way you can ensure your bathroom is in the best condition possible is figuring out the flow within the room. For example, you may want to be greeted with a good view once you enter your bathroom. You can use a decorative divider, design a nice shower, and so on. You need to to think about your bathroom layout before you go ahead designing anything. Put simply, figure out the placement and flow of the room first.

You can add various elements to your bathroom like small potted plants or bamboo. If you’re not into using plants, you can put unique lamps or colorful curtains, it depends on your style and taste. It’s also a good idea to keep your storage space organized in your bathroom to ensure a clutter-free room. You can use a mix of concealed and open storage for your items.
