Overwhelmed by Surge of Seda Bacolod Occupancies, Ayala Seeks More Tourism Investments in Negros

2018/09/27

In an investment conference hosted by the Province of Negros Occidental and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines for the 33rd Negros Trade Fair, Ayala affirms its commitment to investing further in Negros Island. Junie Jalandoni, senior vice president and head of Ayala Malls, said that their investment commitment in the island region is long-term and they are looking forward to opening more business, residential, industrial, and tourism estates here.

Jalandoni mentioned this as Ayala is set to turn over the corporate building facilities just behind its Seda Hotel Capitol Central portfolio, which is expected to generate up to 3,000 once locators start operating. Ayala's mall component, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, which was originally set for soft opening this October but delayed until December, is also expected to generate an additional 6,000 jobs, both in the retail sector and the adjacent BPO facility.

Furthermore, the Ayala executive expressed the company's "regret" of not building a larger hotel facility for the Seda Hotel in Bacolod as accommodations are constantly overbooked, noting that there is demand for an additional 250 rooms. However, he revealed the company's intent in developing tourism estates in key strategic areas of the island, similar to Lio Tourism Estates in Palawan and their luxury brand El Nido Resorts brand, run by subsidiary Ten Knots Development Corporation.

Lio Tourism Estates includes a residential component, adjacent to El Nido Airport, also owned by the company.*
